To support the call from Australia’s largest hunger relief charity food bank which has seen an extraordinary increase in demand for emergency food relief through COVID-19, We started a food drive couple of weeks back. We will like to thank all our educators, families, children and the community to make it a big success. During the food drive all our children got an opportunity to learn about charity and helping others, some of them got involved in selecting canned goods, fruit and others went door to door in their local community to raise donations.
Miss M asked why we are doing a food drive and one of our educators explained that we should help people in need of food, Miss M brought her box of juice of bottles form the pantry and said I will like to Donate it.

Miss Varsha is school going and when she learnt about the food drive, she went door to door in her neighbourhood to raise food donations, she was the biggest contributor and we are thankful for her efforts and outstanding community spirit.
We also discussed different cultures and different parts of the world, one of our educator belongs to Sikh religion and she discussed How they have a tradition of langar, In Sikhism, a langar (Punjabi: ਲੰਗਰ, ‘kitchen’) is a gurudwara community kitchen which serves meals free of charge to all visitors—without making a distinction of religion, caste, gender, economic status or ethnicity. The community kitchen of a gurudwara is maintained and serviced by Sikh community volunteers. While learning about the tradition of langar, Children learnt about equality, ethics of sharing, community, inclusiveness, and oneness of all humankind.
Children also asked about the different charities and learnt about different charities in Australia.
Throughout the Food drive children learnt that charity is not reserved only for emergencies and appreciated that reaching out to others in need is a way of life. While we are giving to others, we are giving our children an important message about our beliefs concerning the spirit of giving.
Once again, a big thank you to everyone involved from Little Tinkers family day care.
